Dear Walking Football Community, 

 

Moving forward, the FAW Grassroots team, will place its focus on supporting recreational and social walking football provision across communities in Wales, and will utilise and adopt the UEFA Walking Football toolkit as guidance.

As part of this approach, we will be working closely with FAW affiliated clubs, through our Regional Participation Officers, to help create inclusive and enjoyable opportunities for people to get involved in walking football, whether they are returning to the game or trying it for the first time. This work will recognise the vital role that walking football plays in promoting health, wellbeing, and community connection for people of all ages and backgrounds and we will be working with community partners where possible to add value. 

 

This focus also aligns with our FAW Grassroots Strategy ‘Enhancing Lives through Football’, specifically strategic goal 5 to Provide new targeted participation opportunities to grow & retain the number of people playing football and the objective of providing more informal, flexible opportunities for adults to play football, The FAW’s Grassroots Strategy 2024-30 - FAW Grassroots Strategy 

 

The FAW will also be producing a Walking Football guidance document with further detail, including clear objectives and messaging. 

 

We are excited about the potential this brings and look forward to working together to continue growing the game in a way that’s welcoming, accessible, and fun for all.
