The Wales Walking Football 50s and 60s league season came to its finale yesterday, with the playoffs between the top teams in the leagues from North and South Wales.
The games were played at a new venue for us, namely at Ludlow Town FC’s ground – just over the border in the Welsh Marches. Ludlow Town were excellent hosts – and big thanks to them for their hospitality.

Both 50s and 60s tournaments were preceded by a minute’s silence to honour Remembrance Day (also to remember some of our walking football family in Wales who have recently passed away).

The 50s played first in a highly competitive round robin of six clubs. A single point separated the top four, but Connah’s Quay Nomads were a point clear so were crowned champions. Neath Dragons were a point behind, along with Caldicot and Llangennech, but Neath were second by virtue of their better goal difference. Caldicot and Llangennech shared third place.
The 60s played next in a second round robin of six clubs. Going into the last round, any one of four teams could have topped the table but in the end it was Connah’s Quay Nomads again, as they pipped Abercynon by a single point. So a double for Connah’s Quay Nomads (and North Wales), with South Wales teams in second place in both age groups.

Well done to Hawarden Strollers Walking Football 60s team for qualifying for the 2024 Wales Playoff Finals.

The six best teams in Wales, two from the North, two from Mid Wales and two from the South played each other at Ludlow Town FC's ground. They drew three matches but lost both the other two games one nil.
A club spokesman said : "In only our second competitive season, the playoffs was a learning curve for our lads and we will get better. It was great to take part in such a competitive event, sixty men in their 60s still going at it hammer and tong on footy pitches!! We would like to thank the organisers, the match officials, all the other teams involved for a cracking day and well done to the Nomads for winning the competition.
